Jeep - Oil consuming car
I bought a Jeep Cherokee with 1200 miles on it. I've had it to the dealers a couple of times for oil consumption.
It is using a quart every 2000 miles. The dealer looked for leaks then changed the oil twice. I've never had a car that used oil. I talked to another dealer who offered to put dye in the oil to try to find a leak but said Chrysler put out a note that this car uses oil to the tune of 2000 miles per quart and will get worse.
I don't know what is going on with this engine but it seems like this should be a recall because someone didn't do something right. Maybe I should contact the government instead of writing a note to you. This could be a safety issue because who checks the oil level, NOBODY. If the engine failed and stopped working for lack of oil going 70 miles a hour down the highway and suddenly the steering and brakes got considerably harder than panic sets in???
It's a nice car and my wife likes it but I can't deal with this. If I died and taking care of the car were left to her this could happen to her.
